Q Morning Crew with Mike & Kim

THE MIKE AND KIM STORY

Mike was with Q 92-3 as they played 10,000 songs in a row to launch the brand new radio station.  He had a morning show partner that could only put up with him for a few months before she couldn't take him anymore and moved on to bigger and better things.

Then Kim came from California and joined Mike at the end of Febraury of 2003 and things have never been the same.

The two of them are kind of like characters from Seinfeld.  Kim is like Elaine because she's more like one of the guys rather than one of the girls.  Like Elaine though she still has somewhat of a female perspective.  Mike is kind of like George Costanza because he's a jerk, he's unlucky, he's politically incorrect.

Nothing is sacred as they share all aspects of their life on the air.  We know more than we ever wanted to.

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED ABOUT MIKE OVER THE YEARS

  • He started by going through a divorce that he was handling as his own lawyer which turned out to make it last two to three years in what he kept referring to on the air as the worlds longest divorce.  This also led to many moments of making fun of his ex-wife and her West Virginia roots.

  • We have heard many stories about his two grand kids that he raises.

  • There was the time that he was away at Christmas and came home to find that every window in his
house and his new car were broken in a case of mistaken indentity.

  • There was another time that he returned from Christmas and his girlfriends daughter lost his dog while they were gone and then two weeks later he actually found the dog.

  • He found out the day before he went on a cruise that he had diabetes.

  • There was the time that he had 30 days to move his home off the property he was leasing.

  • A couple of teenagers flipped him off and then kept slamming their brakes in front of him.  He got out at a stoplight and they rolled up the window and flipped him off again before speeding off.  When they continued as they drove in front of him he called the police.  Mike wanted the police to tell teach the kids not to do that to other motorists and instead the officer said if it had been him he would have smoked Mike and put him in the hospital and if he had a gun he would have put it in Mike's ear.

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED ABOUT KIM OVER THE YEARS

  • That she was raised by wolves.  It's the only way Mike could figure out how she wasn't exposed to things like other people have been.  She confirmed it for him and below you will see the Story of Wolf Girl.

  • She moved here with her son a dog and a cat.  She's added a few animals since then and some are still with them.

  • She grabbed herself a younger husband.  Mike teased her about trolling the schoolyard but he didn't embarrass himself quite like the co-workers who asked if it was her son when they first met him.

  • There was a period of time when her son became a morning show fixture as he would call Kim as he was missing the bus on a regular basis.

  • She has been through different hair colors over time including a color one time that was kind of a pink color.

  • She is geographically challenged.  When she first moved to Rapid City a trip to the store might be a two block trip that could turn into a two hour drive.

  • She is a homebody that rarely leaves the house and has yet to see several of the area attractions including Mount Rushmore.

The Story of Wolf Girl AKA Kim Alan

It was often speculated by Mike and finally confirmed by Kim that she was raised by Wolves.  Living in a den is the only way Mike could figure out how Kim could not be exposed to or familiar with common everyday things.  We have now started compiling a list of some of the things and they are listed below:
Billy Jack, Jerry Reed, Davey and Goliath, and many TV shows like having never seen an episode of Gilligan's Island.  She wasn't familiar with the bank term overdraft.  A barn is something she has never seen up close.  She doesn't know who or what Rin Tin Tin is.  She has never heard of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Never seen Butch Cassidy.  Doesn't know what a Dilly Bar is.  She said she has worked at a Dairy Queen before.  (It was introduced in 1955 at Dairy Queen restaurants nationwide and has been a best seller in all their stores) Not familiar with the Jonah and the Whale story.  Didn't know the previous Mars missions were to look for water and a place to land. She says she has never had a fantasy about a celebrity or any guy.  She said she has never known anyone who had an April Fool's joke played on them and hasn't played one on others.  Doesn't know who Hannity and Colmes are.   She told Shane she has never been through a drive through at a bank.  She told him they didn't have them in California.  She isn't familiar with the use of railroad ties with gardening and landscaping.  She has never been invited to a wedding shower and doesn't know anyone who had a wedding shower.  She says she was completely unaware of the act of college kids taking home glasses or mugs when they go out drinking.   Says she didn't have cable TV until she moved to Rapid City 4 years ago.   Not just extended cable but not even basic cable meaning it was only rabbit ears and network TV from the late 60's until 2003.  Worked with Mike for almost 4 years and when he shaved his beard for the first time in 22 years into a goatee she didn't notice.  Then said she didn't realize he had a full beard because she doesn't look at him that close. Mike thought she was joking but she said she was serious.  She hasn't seen the Man Law commercials.
